Summary

We are looking for an experienced database administrator who will be responsible for ensuring the performance, availability, and security of clusters of MySQL, Galera DB instances. You will also be responsible for orchestrating upgrades, backups, and provisioning of database instances. You will also work in tandem with the other teams, preparing documentations and specifications as required. The Database Administrator II will provide support in identifying, communicating and resolving issues in order to maximize the availability and performance of database system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure and upgrade database server software and related products
  • Allocating system storage and planning storage requirements for the database/cluster
  • Implement and maintain database security protocols (create and maintain users and roles, assign privileges)
  • Provision MySQL and other SQL related instances, both in clustered and non-clustered configurations
  • Ensure performance, security, and availability of databases
  • Prepare documentations and specifications
  • Handle common database procedures, such as upgrade, backup, recovery, migration, etc.
  • Profile server resource usage, optimize and tweak as necessary
  • Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders
  • Plan for growth and changes (capacity planning)
  • Work as part of a team and provide 24x7 support when required
  • Perform general technical troubleshooting and consult with development teams
  • Generate various reports by querying from database as needed
  • Interface with database and other vendors for technical support
  • Patch Management and Version Control
  • Architecture database and implementation
  • Perform database tuning and performance monitoring
  • Other duties as assigned by management

Minimum Experience, Education and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field preferred or equivalent work experience
  • 4+ years of Database Administrator experience including installation, monitoring, maintenance, etc.
  • Must have data modeling and/or application database design experience
  • Experience with code migration, database change management and data management through the various stages of the development life cycle

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong proficiency in MySQL database management (design, installations, configurations, architecture, monitoring)
  • Strong experience with Performance tuning and optimization of databases
  • Strong knowledge in Unix/Linux operating systems (Centos, Ubuntu, Fedora) is a must
  • Strong working knowledge with replication configuration in MySQL, specifically Galera Clustering
  • Strong experience with recent versions of MySQL, MariaDB, MongoDB, SQL, Oracle.
  • Working Knowledge of AWS platform, handling of technical queries and understanding the way client engagement occurs
  • Understanding of MySQL's underlying storage engines, such as InnoDB and MyISAM
  • Proficient in writing and optimizing SQL statements
  • Ability to plan resource requirements from high level specifications for scalability and robustness
  • Familiarity with other SQL/NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, MongoDB,
  • Working knowledge of data integrity
  • Working knowledge of security management
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines
  • Ability to partition data across clusters and handle
  • Ability to performance tune databases and systems for optimal performance
  • Ability to peer review the work of other database engineers or developers and provide constructive feedback
  • Ability to guide the future roadmap of database sourcing and implementation for the company; researching new technologies, methods, and architectures.
