Summary

The responsibility of the Database Administrator II is to ensure the performance, integrity, security and operation of the database systems that support the enterprise application functions. This role is responsible for the installation and configuration of database servers, data replication, data backup, data recovery, security, and code deployments. The Database Administrator I will provide support in identifying, communicating and resolving issues in order to maximize the availability and performance of database system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure and upgrade database server software and related products
  • Allocating system storage and planning storage requirements for the database/cluster
  • Implement and maintain database security protocols (create and maintain users and roles, assign privileges)
  • Provide documentation and diagrams of clusters, network infrastructure, and underlying hardware
  • Establish and maintain backup, recovery, and redundancy policies/procedures
  • Backup and restore databases
  • Controlling and monitoring user access to the database
  • Architecture database and implementation
  • Perform database tuning and performance monitoring
  • Perform application tuning and performance monitoring
  • Setup and maintain documentation and standards
  • Plan for growth and changes (capacity planning)
  • Work as part of a team and provide 24x7 support when required
  • Perform general technical troubleshooting and consult with development teams
  • Generate various reports by querying from database as needed
  • Interface with database and other vendors for technical support
  • Patch Management and Version Control
  • Other duties as assigned by management

Minimum Experience, Education and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field preferred or equivalent work experience
  • 4+ years of Database Administrator experience including installation, monitoring, maintenance, etc.
  • Must have data modeling and/or application database design experience
  • Experience with code migration, database change management and data management through the various stages of the development life cycle

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • General understanding of distributed computing architectures, e.g. Client/Server, Internet/Intranet, Microservices, etc.
  • General understanding of the underlying operating systems, e.g. Windows, Unix, Linux, OSX
  • General understanding of storage technologies, memory management, disk arrays, NAS/SAN, networking
  • General understanding of routine maintenance, recovery, and handling failover of a Database
  • Understanding of Dimensional Modeling and Data Warehouse concepts, such as star schema, snowflakes, dimensions, facts, etc.
  • Understanding of agile development methodologies
  • Working knowledge of data integrity
  • Working knowledge of security management
  • Knowledge of database design
  • Knowledge of RDBMS and NoSQL solutions e.g. Oracle Database, Informix, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, MongoDB etc.
  • Knowledge of structured query language (SQL), e.g. SQL/PSM, Transact-SQL
  • Ability to learn new skills and technologies
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines
  • Ability to partition data across clusters and handle
  • Ability to performance tune databases and systems for optimal performance
  • Ability to peer review the work of other database engineers or developers and provide constructive feedback
  • Ability to guide the future roadmap of database sourcing and implementation for the company; researching new technologies, methods, and architectures.
  • Ability to perform a diverse range of responsibilities with a moderate amount of autonomy
